Chilla
Wildlife Sanctuary sprawling over an area of 249 square km is nestled on the
east banks of river Ganga. The sanctuary was established in 1977 and was
combined with the sanctuary of Motichur and Rajaji in the year 1983 to create
Rajaji National Park. One can have a magnificent view of the mighty Ganges as
well as the Himalayas to the north.
Wildlife at Chilla
Chilla is located at a favourable distance of 10 km from Haridwar and showcases
varied wildlife such as elephants, tigers, bears, small cats and playful birds.
The visitors can easily spot deers, wild boar, sambhar, the gray langur, red
rhesus macaque, the barking deer, peacock, quails, hornbills, hawks, falcons,
and vultures in this sanctuary.
Things to do
The travellers can enjoy the adventurous jeep safaris which is 2 and ½ hour
circuit exhibiting the wilderness and the beautiful landscape. The jeep safari
passes through the Mundal, Mithwali, and Khara. One can also enjoy the thrilling
elephant rides which are only possible in the morning and evening.

The Chilla Forest Rest House offers a pleasurable stay amidst the natural
surroundings. The rest house is situated in the main tourism zone on NH 58, just
after the long bridge on the Ganga from Chandi Gate.
Best Time to Visit Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary can be visited between November and June. The tourists can have
exhilarating wildlife safaris along with the exciting elephant rides.

Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary located in the vicinity of Haridwar is just 20 km away
from Rishikesh. Located in the middle of Rishikesh and Haridwar the Chilla
Forest Range is nestled near the Ganga Bhogpur village. The nearest railhead is
at Rishikesh and Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to
Chilla.
